“I wanted to play the cello when I was just 8 years old. The first time I tried, I placed the instrument against my chest and felt this intense vibration. It was an irresistible sensory experience, an almost physical encounter.”Audrey Goepp, string instrument maker
Concerts for all ears
The Vincennes music season brings a rich, modernly eclectic programme that changes every year, offering a whole journey of jazz, world music, songs and stage musicals at the Espace Sorano or in the 530-seat main hall of the Georges Pompidou cultural centre. Classical comes under the spotlight once a month with Prima la Musica! as major works are performed at the Coeur de Ville auditorium where the acoustics are amazing. But also with some memorable commented performances by the young talents of the Vincennes symphonic orchestra, Les Clés d’Euphonia.
Music comes to town
Les Inouïs proposes a succession of instrumental and vocal renditions by teachers from the Conservatoire de Vincennes. One of the backbones of community life in Vincennes is the municipal Conservatoire where over 1,000 students learn the arts of music, song, dance and acting and perform for all audiences in concerts, choir performances and various shows. In summer, moments of pure joy await you in the lovely green setting of the Parc Floral which hosts the Classique au Vert festival. This is the Parisian “summer garden of classical music.” The event attracts more than 80,000 loyal followers!
Try browsing in the intimate atmosphere of the Larghetto music shop and string instrument workshop. This is the place to find rare sheet music, beautiful instruments and, above all, some sound advice! Beaussart & Goepp also make string instruments, in their beautiful workshop opposite the château. Audrey restores quartet instruments, truly exceptional items, while Alexandre crafts replicas of ancient instruments, but only those played by the Italian masters between 1650 and 1750. Their shelves are full of pure marvels.
Frémeaux & Associés are eclectic specialists who release not only the works of the greatest musicians, but also vocal and musical pieces from the archives of history, philosophy and even the natural world! Music fans might also find a gem or two at the Millepages adult bookshop.
